It's time to start planning your vacation to the Everglades. We cater to the adventurous traveler.

Where Adventure is Becoming More Luxurious and Luxury More Adventurous

Escape to the Everglades

Located in the center of over a million acres of wilderness, a stay at Big Cypress Gallery Swamp Cottages allows you to escape to the Florida Everglades in comfort while exploring this one-of-a-kind eco-system.

The cottages are nestled on fourteen secluded acres along Tamiami Trail (hwy 41 mile marker 54) between Everglades National Park to the east and the small village of Everglades City to the west.

Bring the family and stay in our Bungalow or Cottage – and at the same time, enjoy all that we offer on the property. Explore the Everglades behind your cottage with a guided Swamp Walk Eco-tour or a Photo Swamp Safari. After your tour, relax in a hammock under the cypress trees and listen to the sounds of nature. Or, visit Clyde Butcher’s gallery and view his photography. Behind the gallery is a groomed nature trail that you can explore. At night, enjoy a campfire near the chickee, watch in wonder the splendor of the stars in a sky with no light pollution.

Plan a 2-3 night stay - there's lots to do and see!

Located just 17 miles to the east in the Everglades National Park is Shark Valley. Ride the tram, bike or walk up the tower ramp for great viewing of the swamp. During the winter months, birds are in abundance and identifying them is a fun activity.

Everglades City is located 25 miles to the west. This is a great location for kayaking through mangroves, fishing, airboat tours, and dining.

If you want to stay close by, the Big Cypress National Preserve Oasis Visitor Center is just a few miles west of us. Park Rangers are happy to inform you of the activities in the park including; guided canoe rides down Turner River – where you can explore mangrove tunnels, guided hikes, viewing the night sky and much more.

Also close by, just 8.5 miles to the east, is Kirby Storter Roadside Park. There you can enjoy a 1 mile roundtrip boardwalk stroll through a mature cypress strand.

Only six miles from our location, is Loop Road. As you travel down Loop Road you’ll come to Gator Hook trail where there are pic-nic tables and a restroom. Gator Hook Trail is where Clyde took one of his well-known photographs. Further along the road is Sweet Water, a creek that flows under the road and a great spot for early morning bird watching.

“We spent 3 amazing nights in there swamp cottage. I originally booked the bungalow and after seeing the 2 different views I decided to upgrade to the Swamp Cottage. Though I’m sure the Bungalow is a treasure as well, I’m SO HAPPY I upgraded!! having your “own” pond to stare at from “your” living room was so serene. We arrived to a beautiful welcome note and some snacks! They even had a can of bug spray in case we forgot ours!! It was so welcoming. There had to be at least 10 baby alligators in “our backyard” pond to watch ranging from 6 inches to 1.5 feet. The sounds they make when you’re nearby are adorable. The mama kept her distance for the most part keeping an eye on us from afar though she did venture on land for a bit! We meandered in the swamp for about 3 hours taking pictures and enjoying the peace of the wild. The water is clear and you can see the bottom so I felt safe :-). It ranged from ankle deep to a little below my waist (I’m 5’5”) People travel the earth to experience the feeling I felt 4 hrs from home. It really was a awe inspiring Life moment for me!! The pond in the front parking lot was just as amazing and beautiful and had 2 large male gators and lots of beautiful birds to watch and shoot. The staff?? That’s a whole other type of AMAZING!! I could only imagine that the whole staff is incredible by the example that Scott, Conny and John set, but they’re the 3 we had the pleasure of speaking with on several occasions during our short stay!! They were happy to share stories, property wildlife knowledge and engage in small talk. They inquired about our swamp adventure and genuinely enjoyed hearing our take on their home. Thank you for enhancing our stay. I could go on & on about this semi-hidden piece of swamp paradise, but I think you got the gist of it. A hotel would not compare to staying in the swamp!!.”
