Sand Dune 1
When I lived in California we would head off to the Glamis dunes with our friends to go dune-buggying. The south side of the road was for buggies while the north side was to remain natural and could only be entered on foot. The north side of the road was very intriguing to me. The dunes always seemed to have wonderful shapes and textures on them. The locals told me that the best time to photograph them was in August, so that was when I headed out to photograph the dunes. There were no hotels in Glamis, so I had to stay a distance away. Before the sun rose and produced a very hot day, I drove out to the dunes. I wanted to get there so I could at least hike into them in the cool morning. It was a wonderful experience until the full force of the sun began beating down on me. It was 115 degrees when I got back to the car. This photograph is hand-printed in Clyde’s darkroom on fiber-based paper, selenium toned, then mounted and matted to current archival standards.
