ANTELOPE CANYON 1

Lake Powell Navajo Tribal Park, Arizona

Antelope canyon 1x10x7
Photographic Story Photographing the Navajo slot canyons could be a lifetime occupation. They are beautiful creations of abstract designs. While we were out west, I took the opportunity to try my hand at photographing them. We joined a Photographic Tour of Antelope Canyon. I guess I didn’t fully comprehend how fast digital photographers take pictures. There I was with an old fashion large format film camera and by the time I got set up, everyone was ready to head on to the next location! It was very frustrating. I did manage to capture a couple of images. I was amazed they turned out. The experience was so frustrating that I finally gave up and went outside to sit and wait until everyone was through. When I got outside a Navajo came up to me and said, “I saw you in the canyon and you looked very frustrated. If you’d like an experience that is more appropriate to your large camera, my grandmother owns a slot canyon you can photograph.” The next day we traveled to his canyon and had a great time. Analog – Archival Silver Gelatin Photograph Clyde’s silver gelatin black and white images are created using an 8”x10”, 11”x14”, or 12”x20” view camera. Clyde prints his images in his own darkroom on fiberbase paper in a limited edition. The photographs are selenium toned, then mounted and matted to current archival standards. His images come in sizes from 8”x10” inches to 5’x8’ feet. His love of art and nature is seen in the exceptional detail and more subtle textures of his photography.
