CAPE ROMANO DOME HOUSES 5 © 2014
Barrier Island, Gulf Coast
Photographic Story
Cape Romano has many photographic opportunities, but when I heard that the dome houses were no longer on dry land, I had to see it for myself. The houses were built in 1981 on the beach of Cape Romano. They were unique structures at that time. The fact that they are on a remote island makes them seem both futuristic and retro at the same time – and very much out of place. Now that the beach has eroded out from under the houses, they seem even more strange.
