Loosescrew Gator (aka Snaggletooth) is an American bull alligator who has roamed Clyde and Niki's property and adjacent ponds since before the Butchers bought the property in 1992. He measures over 12' long and demonstrates a defect/injury on his right lower jaw giving him a unique and distinguishing look. His demeanor toward Big Mama, the Butchers' resident female gator, has earned him an unusual reputation. Unlike most bull gators which will readily cannibalize smaller gators, a form of territorial display, Loosescrew will steer away and avoid distressing Big Mama's 15-25 hatchling gators. Mother gators defend, protect, and watch over their vulnerable pods. This bull's behavior seems to delight Big Mama as she always gives him a warm welcome to her pond with affectionate snout rubbing, bubble blowing, and body contact when he visits. This image was captured with a handheld digital Canon camera during the deep throws of the dry season.
