Exhibit: Visions of Florida

July 18 - October 19
Visions of Florida is on display at the Key West Museum of Art & History from July 18 – October 19th. Discover an undisturbed paradise that is rapidly disappearing. Through the eyes of one of America’s finest landscape photographers, journey into the realm of natural Florida – a world seldom seen either by tourists or longtime residents.

Visions of Florida features the art of a photographer often called the ‘Ansel Adams of Florida’. Clyde Butcher hopes that his large-format, black and white photography of Florida’s natural landscapes will change the way people think of Florida. Just as Adams’ work did for California and the American West. Mr. Butcher is an extraordinary artist who ventures into remote parts of Florida, sets up his camera, and waits patiently to capture the right moment on film. With his camera on a specially constructed tripod, he has sunk up to his waist in river mud, been attacked by swarms of mosquitoes, and stood stoically in swamps while alligators lurked nearby. As a result of his painstaking technique, Mr. Butcher’s photographs document one of America’s most complex and unique ecosystems.
