Lecture by Clyde
Selby Gardens, Sarasota

March 11, 2020 @ 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

March 11th, 12:00 – 1:00 pm come and hear Mr. Butcher’s lecture, on his adventures photographing Dali’s homeland where the landscape was always an essential feature of Dali’s work and outlook on life.  The Dali Museum in St. Petersburg sought out Butcher to use his talents to capture a body of images of Dalí’s Mediterranean home, featuring some of the world’s most dramatic landscapes. Butcher traveled to the village of Cadaqués, where Dalí spent summers while growing up, Dalí’s house in Port Lligat and the rugged region of Cap de Creus – all areas that are prominently featured in Dalí’s works.

The lithographic series FlorDalí, on loan from The Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida, will anchor the exhibit. American photographer Clyde Butcher’s series Visions of Dalí’s Spain will also be on viewalong with artifacts and photos that put the artist’s life, work and relationship with nature into context. Additional Dalí works will be on loan from Sarasota collector Keith D. Monda. These artworks and the Dalí-themed plant displays inspired by them will transform Selby Gardens into an evocation of Dalí’s vision.
