This river is the pride of the community of Jupiter on the east coast of Florida. It is a wild and scenic river that runs through town, but when you are canoeing on it you’d never know you were a step away from a busy community.

Good news! A few spots have opened up for our sold-out darkroom tours this Saturday.

Tours will take place at Clyde Butcher's Venice Gallery & Studio, located at 237 Warfield Avenue in Venice, FL.

Clyde's darkroom assistants will guide you through the process of transforming a negative into a work of art.

On the tour, you’ll get an inside look at the inner workings of Clyde's darkroom, including his large-format enlargers and custom-built developing trays.

Discover the tools used for dodging and burning and learn about the importance of precise timing and chemical balance.

A wonderland of mangroves, Cody Island is a bird r

A wonderland of mangroves, Cody Island is a bird rookery that has a powerful aroma, which stayed with me for several days. Mangroves are one of the wonders of the plant world.

They grow in salt water, and their roots protect tiny fish from predators. Their interior is a place few people venture into, mainly because they attract an abundant mosquito population.

The arching roots in the interior of mangroves remind me of the buttresses of ancient gothic churches.

From my family to yours, we send our warmest wishes on this milestone. Hosting you and your family at our Big Cypress Gallery in 2004 during your holiday vacation was truly special. Your family’s adventures created an amazing experience for my family, employees, and the Rangers, filled with wisdom, love, and fun!

“What a great way to begin a new year!” I exclaimed as you, Mrs. Carter, your family, and the Secret Service arrived for a day in the swamp. I often wish more elected officials were as adventurous as you, to see what Florida is REALLY about!

It was wonderful that you chose to spend time at our gallery and join us on a swamp walk through Big Cypress National Preserve. You arrived on a perfect sunny day, and we had the pleasure of giving you a tour, engaging in great discussions about photography, the environment, and your projects.

After the gallery, we headed to the back of the property for an overview of the Preserve. I shared my love for Big Cypress, and we passed out swamp walking sticks before venturing into the wilds of South Florida.

When we reached a fork in the trail, I asked, “Would you like to go deep or stay shallow?” Your enthusiastic reply was “Deep!”—much to the dismay of the Secret Service—as we explored the most beautiful section of the swamp.

As we climbed out and headed for a picnic lunch in my backyard, you said, “That was wonderful. It reminded me of my youth in Georgia when we hiked through all sorts of land.” Never did I think I would be having lunch with the President of the United States after a swamp walk, especially on a picnic bench behind my gallery! It was truly unforgettable.

Here’s to you, President Carter, on your special day! 🎂✨

The Loxahatchee River, one of Florida's few design

The Loxahatchee River, one of Florida's few designated Wild and Scenic Rivers, offers a glimpse into the state's natural beauty and history. Its name, which means "River of Turtles" in Seminole, reflects the rich wildlife that thrives in and around its waters.

The river winds through diverse ecosystems, from freshwater cypress swamps to coastal estuaries, creating a haven for manatees, alligators, and a wide variety of bird species. Exploring this waterway can feel like stepping back in time, as much of it remains unspoiled, with ancient cypress trees lining its banks and offering a peaceful, secluded experience.

The continuing saga of Helene and the small flood

The continuing saga of Helene and the small flood downstairs…

Whew! Cleaning out our downstairs storage area turned into quite the adventure for Clyde & me, but thankfully we had our secret weapons—Jackie & Neal, with their youthful energy and some serious decluttering skills! Jackie even wore her Wonder Woman socks, because, as she put it, “These socks are gonna help me power through today.” And you know what? I think they did! 🤣

We had about 6 inches of salt water down there, and while we lost a lot of junk, the good stuff like tripods and other gear that got submerged just needed a good rinse. It was surprisingly fun working together, especially when we realized how much “junk” we’ve been holding onto. It feels so good to have a fresh, clean space. And in the grand scheme of things, our little hurricane hiccup feels small compared to what many others are dealing with right now. Perspective is everything, right?

Big, loving thanks to Jackie & Neal for their superhero-level help! The storage area looks amazing now! 😍💪
