RATTLESNAKE CANYON 5 © 2013Arizona
I had an opportunity to photograph the Navajo slot canyons near Lake Powell during a photographic tour of the Antelope and Rattlesnake Canyons. When I signed up for the tour, I didn’t realize how fast digital photographers could take photos. Armed with my trusty old-fashioned large-format camera, I found myself lagging behind the group. Each time I got set up for a shot, everyone was already moving on to the next location. It was incredibly frustrating. After a while, I gave up and went outside to wait until the group finished the tour. While waiting, a Navajo gentleman approached me and said he noticed my frustration. After explaining the situation, he kindly offered to take me to his grandmother’s slot canyon. The next day, he took me to his family’s land, where we had a fantastic time capturing the beauty of this unique location at a leisurely pace.
