ICY FALLS © 1972Southern California
One winter day, I ventured out on my own to capture the picturesque Alabama Hill country in Southern California. As I scoured the landscape for a perfect view, I found one on the edge of a snowbank. I set up my 5”x 7” large-format camera and took the photo. After successfully taking a shot, I stored the exposed film in my shoulder pouch. As I was about to collect my tripod and camera, the snow bank I was standing on suddenly gave way beneath me, causing me to plummet approximately 15 feet before landing in another few feet of snow. It took me some time to collect my gear and climb back up to my car. It was a long time before I photographed in the snow again.
