MONEY KEY MANGROVE © 2016Lower Florida Keys
While Niki and I were in the Florida Keys, we decided to explore Money Key Island. Located on the Atlantic side of Seven Mile Bridge, the island is surrounded by coral, making it difficult to reach by boat. We brought our little Gheenoe boat as close to the island as possible. Stepping into very shallow water, we carefully walked around the coral, exploring scenes to photograph. When I saw this mangrove standing alone, I knew I needed to capture it. Sadly, this lone mangrove was lost a year later when Hurricane Irma ravaged the Florida Keys in 2017.
