MYAKKA 13 © 2018Myakka River State Park, Sarasota
This photograph is one of those shots that, had the circumstances been different, I would have missed. I was attending the wedding of one of my darkroom assistants and his lovely bride in Myakka River State Park. The wedding was not long after my stroke, so I was using a walker. As I was waiting for the wedding to start, I noticed, from my lower vantage point, the shallow water just beyond the trees. Had I been standing, it would not have been visible. I tucked away the thought, and a few weeks later, I invited the groom and a few other photographers to join me, and we had a fun day photographing. I liked how the trees framed this scene. Paul and Allison’s wedding took place on the 13th day of the month, a number the couple considers lucky, so I titled this image Myakka 13.
