Myakka Living Oak 7
I had a stroke in 2017, which means that I can no longer use my large-format 8×10″ camera due to the weight (60lbs) of the gear. My life IS photography. I have a deep need to capture, on film, the beauty of the world around me. After the stroke, I began using a digital camera, and yes, there was a learning curve involved. Eventually, I came to enjoy the camera. I now use a walker when I photograph. My wife declares, “Clyde goes where no man has gone before in a walker!”  I’ve gone through two walkers because I take them into both fresh and saltwater to capture the right angle of view. Being handicapped has not stopped me from being a photographer, nor has it changed my ability to see a composition. When I first began photographing again, it was Myakka State Park that my wife and I enjoyed, and it was this tree, Live Oak 7, that I started shooting. This tree is my favorite oak tree in Myakka State Park. The rough texture of the tree, along with the soft feeling of the resurrection ferns and dripping moss, always fills me with peace.  No matter from which direction I photograph the tree, or what time of year, there is a composition. This tree, and Myakka State Park, saved me and got me started photographing again. I continue photographing, even though some days are harder than others. The act of being out in wild nature and capturing that beauty to share with others is what keeps me alive and happy. This photograph is printed on a large format Epson printer using genuine Epson ink and archival Harman Hahnemuhle paper. Each photograph is digitally signed, then mounted and matted to current archival standards. This is a limited edition series and each photograph is numbered.
