Daydreaming: Niki Butcher Exhibit
MARCO ISLAND HISTORICAL MUSEUM

MARCO ISLAND, FLORIDA – Daydreaming, an exhibit by Niki Butcher will be on display at The Marco Island Historical Museum from March 12 – June 8, 2024. Join Niki for a Book Signing & Reception on March 14th from 4:30 – 6 pm.

Niki’s exhibit features over 60 images created over five decades. Daydreaming: Niki Butcher’s Hand-Painted Photography invites you to see the historical, beautiful, and sometimes quirky aspects of our world through the eyes of a thoughtful optimist. Niki has focused her camera on the fading facades of old Florida, capturing funky ‘mom & pop’ wayside businesses, lonesome sandy beaches, and the beauty of the Everglades. Remembering the gentle feeling of old Florida postcards, Niki hand paints her black and white photographs in vibrant tones and pastel hues.

Starting from the tonally blank canvas of a black and white photograph, artist Niki Butcher adds color to present the world from a “Daydreaming…” perspective. Through her photography, Niki captures places and people that stand out as beautiful, unique, endangered, and authentic. Yet what sets her work apart is her use of color. She breathes life and imagination into these photographed scenes, creating a picture of life far beyond what a camera could capture. Visit Daydreaming and experience a view of the world that adds a bit more color, a good dose of humor, and an infusion of positivity.

Clyde’s Exhibit Cuba: The Natural Beauty will be on display at the Marco Island Historical Museum. The exhibit runs from January 24 to April 29, 2023.

This collection documents Clyde’s journey through Cuba on three separate expeditions. Discovering the warmth and hospitality of the Cuban people, through his photography, Clyde has helped open Cuba’s natural beauty to the world. From mountain waterfalls to lush green jungles and grassy swamps to sandy beaches, his photographs reveal the seductive beauty, subtle grandeur, and majesty of this diverse island. The expedition to Cuba took him to places not seen by visitors in over fifty years.

Cuba invited Clyde, as an official photographer, and conservationists from across the Americas and the Caribbean to meet in 2002, a year declared by the United Nations as “The Year of the Mountains.” The U.N. encouraged countries across the world to hold environmental conferences about mountain conservation. Clyde saw this as an opportunity to make a positive difference in the world and wholeheartedly photographed the remarkable island.
