Clyde’s Everglades Exhibit is on display from October 2 – January 2, 2024 at the Visual Arts Center and Performing Arts Center.

America’s Everglades: Through the Lens of Clyde Butcher highlights Butcher’s artistic eye as well as his deep and long-held commitment to conservation. His work challenges us to explore the heritage we share in the natural world and to work together to protect it. Through his photography, Butcher hopes to educate the public by bringing environmental issues to the forefront of public consciousness.

With his century-old camera, Clyde Butcher has been exploring and documenting the Everglades for more than three decades. The result is a stunning collection of large-format black-and-white photographs that capture untouched parts of the nation’s largest subtropical wilderness. Delicate ecosystems, rare botanical specimens, and sweeping landscapes bring the wonder of this mysterious part of our country to light.

Meet Clyde Butcher
CLEARWATER MAIN LIBRARY

Join Clyde Butcher for a book signing at the Clearwater Main Library on August 16th from 5 – 6 pm. This event is FREE and open to the public. Later that evening, Clyde will be giving a lecture at the Capitol Theatre. CLICK HERE for more information and for the ticketing link.

This event is in conjunction with his Cuba Exhibit, which is up through October 31st at the Clearwater Main Library.

Commissioned by the United Nations to create a portfolio of the mountainous lands of Cuba, Clyde Butcher set out on three week-long expeditions into unfamiliar lands. He explored the island country’s varied geographic regions, from the Sierra Maestra Mountains in Cuba’s eastern Granma province, to the southern coast between Manzananilo and Santiago de Cuba. He ventured to places including Baracoa in the northeast, the southern waterfalls of the Serra de San Juan, and the mogotes of the west in the Piña del Rio region.

While taking photographs for the Conference for the Sustainable Habitat of the Mountains, Clyde thought about being part of an event changing history for the better, and enthusiastically saw an opportunity to make a positive difference. His photography transcends political boundaries, challenging us to work together to protect natural places across the globe.

Her newest pieces are mixed media that combine relief print with encaustic medium. Her works will be on exhibit until December. August is one of Clyde’s favorite months to photograph the Everglades, and he is looking forward to spending some time in his Swamp Bungalow behind the gallery photographing for the month of August.

Meet Clyde St. Armand’s Gallery
Rain Date: America the Beautiful Exhibit

Did you miss out on meeting Clyde at his St. Armand’s Gallery due to weather this past weekend? Saturday, June 2nd from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. we’re adding an additional opportunity to see this exhibit and meet Clyde. “The images found in this exhibit reflect my respect and appreciation of those heroes of the past who were willing to stand up and proclaim the need to save our environment so that today we can see portions of our country as pristine, unchanged and unspoiled as it was long ago.” Clyde Butcher Much of America the Beautiful: The Monumental Landscape by Clyde Butcher, majestically captures the great and public natural lands set aside by the Federal and State governments for the enjoyment, education and inspiration of this generation and future generations. Through the patriotic generosity of gifts from families such as the Rockefellers, many of the National Parks are preserved as the patrimony of the Nation and meant for all. If every picture tells a story, these powerful black and white images are portraits of the eternal bond between man and nature that is the soul of our country. While this exhibition and its photographs fall squarely as major works of art, it is undeniable that the elusive Nature is threatened by industrial and residential development, and the environment is at grave risk. It is responsibility of every American to preserve the natural elements of our country. To make a good start of this, all we need to do as individuals, is simply plant a tree.
