Visions of Dali’s SpainSt. Armands Gallery
December 7, 2018 - January 28, 2019
On December 7, Clyde Butcher’s acclaimed Visions of Dalí exhibit will reopen in Butcher’s new gallery on St. Armands Circle from December 7, 2018 – January 28, 2019. Gallery guests will enjoy stunning images of Dali’s homeland on an epic scale and exploreDali’s surroundings through the eyes of Florida’s greatest nature photographer, Clyde Butcher. Known as the “Ansel Adams of the Florida landscape,” Butcher’s photographs are technically brilliant and their large format creates a euphoric, immersive experience for viewers. His works have become an influential part of Florida’s cultural landscape, showcasing the true beauty of Floridian swamp and marsh environments.
For Salvador Dalí, the landscape of his homeland was always an essential feature of his work and outlook on life. The Dalí Museum sought Butcher’s talents to capture the spirit of Dali’s Mediterranean home, located in one of the world’s most dramatic landscapes. With a discerning and selective eye, Butcher traveled to the village of Cadaques, Dalí’s house in Port Lligat and the rugged region of Cap de Creus – all areas that are prominently featured in Dali’s works – and provided a glimpse into his psyche. The thoughtfully curated collection features 41 photos that take viewers on a journey through the Catalonian region. The exhibit is Butcher’s first photographic exhibition of Spain, as well as the first time he has been commissioned to photograph an area that influenced another artist.
