"I dedicate this book with the deepest gratitude and love to my wife, Niki. From the moment we crossed paths, I recognized Niki as my soulmate.

Our shared aspiration for a life beyond the ordinary brought us together. Niki embraced the unconventional path and encouraged me when I decided to leave my architectural career and pursue my dream of becoming a photographer.

During the challenging early days, as financial uncertainties loomed, she stood by my side, securing a job, setting aside her art, and caring for our children, allowing me the time and space to develop as an artist.

Over the years, we have become inseparable companions, navigating every twist and turn together. The photographs I create are not solely my own; Niki is an integral part of each image.

Clyde's journey into architecture started with a c

Clyde's journey into architecture started with a challenge. When Clyde became an architectural student he didn’t realize he would need to draw his architectural presentations.

He had never taken an art class and he had no idea how to draw. His solution? Crafting intricate architectural models and bringing them to life through photography.

His work wasn't just about crafting stunning models; it was about infusing life into his creations. Clyde went big – both in scale and imagination.

What set his work apart were the tiny figures he meticulously crafted to inhabit these miniature worlds. The miniature creations in these architectural model photographs added a unique charm and perspective.

Each human model began with a candid portrait of a fellow student or urban resident. Clyde then developed his film and printed the models to scale for the project, cut them out and placed them inside.

He recently found this box of his model people safely tucked away in his archives.

These figures were a labor of love, adding a human touch to his architectural landscapes. Whether it was a bustling city scene or a tranquil suburban neighborhood, Clyde's miniature people brought life into his designs, capturing the essence of human interaction and scale.

Pictured: Clyde photographing a scale model of a museum he designed and built in architecture school in 1962. Rather than drawing, he found this to be the best way for him to create designs.

In 1964, Clyde wrote his senior thesis describing his use of photography in architectural design. Later that year, he graduated with a degree in architecture from Cal Poly.
