We had traveled to the Pacific Northwest to photog We had traveled to the Pacific Northwest to photograph the rugged coast. However, when I went to the rain forest in Olympic National Park, I felt so much at home that I couldn’t leave.

The smells and lush green reminded me of Florida swamps. It took me a while, but I finally made it to Third Beach to photograph the coast.

Just an hour and a half west of New York City, the Just an hour and a half west of New York City, the Delaware Water Gap waterway runs between Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Niki and I visited it in the springtime and experienced the joy of the flowing rivers, streams, and creeks that meander through more than thirty-five miles of pristine wilderness.

Of course, everyone said we wouldn’t be able to photograph in the rain, but the May showers didn’t stop us from capturing these beautiful images. After all, that’s what umbrellas are for!

Crystal River, the gem of Florida’s beautiful Na Crystal River, the gem of Florida’s beautiful Nature Coast, is about a two hour drive from Tampa. Because Kings Bay is one of the best places in the world to observe manatees, Crystal River is an international destination.

Kings Bay, which has been designated an “Outstanding Florida Waterway,” offers opportunities for boating, diving, swimming, fishing as well as a variety of Manatee and Eco-Tours.

In addition, there are miles of nature trails to hike, bike, and observe an abundance of birds, deer, alligators, and other wildlife.

At the southwest edge of the Everglades lies one o At the southwest edge of the Everglades lies one of the world’s most productive and biodiverse estuaries, the Ten Thousand Islands National Wildlife Refuge.

This coastal wetland, spanning 35,000 acres, is a labyrinth of mangrove islands. Mangroves contribute to a rich source of nutrition in the form of leaves, bark, and twigs—debris that becomes colonized by microorganisms and eaten by small fish, shrimp, crabs, and their larvae.

The plant’s ability to trap and accumulate debris creates new islands and habitats for other vegetation, allowing juvenile creatures to flourish.

The mangroves, with their sprawling, submersible root structures, offer a hiding place to a diverse array of inhabitants from both larger predators and the pounding destructive forces of seasonal storms.

These sturdy barriers are essential in protecting the coastline from tidal surges and pounding waves as hurricanes and tropical storms roll through.

Established in 1906 by Ted Smallwood, this Trading Established in 1906 by Ted Smallwood, this Trading Post served a remote and isolated area buying hides, furs, and farm produce in exchange for providing the goods required to survive.

Ted Smallwood’s Store was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, it remained opened until 1982. When the doors were shut, 90% of the original goods remained in the store. In 1990 Ted’s granddaughter reopened the store as a museum and today it serves as a time capsule of Florida pioneer history.
