This image is very different than my normal style

This image is very different than my normal style of photography. Niki loves to photograph plants and was playing around photographing this plant when she decided they were just too wonderful for a small digital camera. She came and got me, requesting that I photograph them with my large format camera so that she could see all the detail when the image gets enlarged to a giant size. She says, “…so, because Clyde loves me, he took this photograph for me.” Yes, that is true and it wasn’t easy! It was dusky, so my exposure was ten minutes. In a large format camera everything is upside down and backwards, which makes it hard to make good compositions. However, when the image is an abstract, it’s even harder. I really didn’t think I managed to capture it due to all of the technical problems. However, I like it so well I might just do a few more close up images down the road!

BEAVER POND 1997 | BEAR LAKE TRAIL 1997 | I spent two weeks as Artist in Residence at the Rocky Mountain National Park. Although the rangers kept apologizing for the poor weather, I thought I was fortunate. Every day brought rolling thunderheads rolling across the mountains, which gave me dramatic skies and fresh, clean air. What else could I ask for?

HOH RAIN FOREST 53
1996 | Niki and I headed to the Washington coast and Olympic National Park on a mission to photograph coastal images. Our goal was to photograph big waves in the Pacific Ocean, but instead, we decided to check out the Hoh Rainforest. The high humidity mixed with the cool temperatures made it quite comfortable, and we stayed for the next several days. We were so fascinated by the rain forest that we only spent one day photographing the Pacific Ocean.

GATOR HOOK 1 2009 | When I took this photograph, Gator Hook was entering the last throes of the dry season. There were a few pools of water left, but for the most part everything was reaching toward the sky in search of rain. As I photographed this scene, a gator lying on the grass at the end of the pond eyed me suspiciously. This was his only source of water for miles around and he wasn’t taking it kindly that I was invading his territory.

ACADIA 10 2006 | I had heard stories about the beauty of AcadiaNational Park and was very excited when I had an opportunity to photograph it. The island is a beautiful jewel along the east coast of Maine, filled with soft, gentle green rolling interior spaces and a rugged, dramatic coastline.
