Dead Lakes is a very unusual lake. It’s difficul Dead Lakes is a very unusual lake. It’s difficult to get around unless you know the lake very well because old dead cypress trees can be 1-20 feet beneath your boat. If you go to fast you might lose your prop, and so we put-putted around the lake at a nice slow speed. I took this photograph from the boat.

The water was deeper than my tripod, so Niki and Elam Stoltzfus held the boat against cypress knees while I photographed. I was very pleased that the film came out sharp.

I spent a day in Biscayne Bay on a photo trip. Lat I spent a day in Biscayne Bay on a photo trip. Late in the afternoon, the sun began to break through the clouds creating fantastic patterns of light that sprinkled across the water.

The area was very shallow, so I hopped out of the boat to set up the camera but quickly found myself waist-deep in muddy sand. I wallowed over to the place I wanted to photograph while Niki slowly maneuvered the boat as close as she could get, and handed me my camera gear.

By the time I finished taking the picture, I was stuck. In an attempt to free myself, I ran my hand down my leg, creating a space for air in the mud to break the suction. I escaped, but the mud claimed my wedding ring. Now I like to tell people that “Dare’s gold in dem dare mangroves!”

This river is the pride of the community of Jupite This river is the pride of the community of Jupiter on the east coast of Florida. It is a wild and scenic river that runs through town, but when you are canoeing on it you’d never know you were a step away from a busy community.

You may wonder why so many people visit Yellowston You may wonder why so many people visit Yellowstone National Park. The land is so unstable; it’s a little nerve-racking. But I enjoy photographing the diverse geological land formations that are features of the park. The area around Orange Spring Mound is fascinating; however, the intensity of the value scale makes it very difficult for black and white photography.

Now that we have added a second location for my ga Now that we have added a second location for my gallery and studio in Venice, I am finding the opportunity to explore the Myakka State Park.

For a good portion of the summer, Myakka was submerged under an abundance of water, making it a wet wonderland of tropical splendor. However, the abundance of water forced the park to close its gates.

Fortunately, Ranger Paula was kind enough to drive me around in the park jeep to many unique locations. Everywhere I looked I found great scenes to photograph…Myakka is truly a beautiful place.
